Fields and rules

All 23 field types, what each collects, and the validation rules that run in the browser and again on the server.

Drag a field from the palette or press Add field at the bottom of the canvas. Select a field to edit it in the inspector on the right: General for label, help text and placeholder, Rules for validation, Logic for conditions and Advanced for the field key and width.

Rules

Every data field can be required. Beyond that, the rules available depend on the type:

RuleApplies to
Minimum and maximum lengthShort text, long text
Pattern (regular expression) with a custom messageShort text, email, phone, website
Allowed email domainsEmail
Minimum, maximum and stepNumber, slider
Earliest and latest dateDate
Minimum and maximum selectionsCheckboxes, multi-select
Rules run in the browser for instant feedback and again on the server when the request arrives. A request crafted by hand cannot skip them: it gets a 422 with the failing fields listed. See Errors and status codes.

Field keys

Each field has a key derived from its label (for example How did you hear about us? becomes how_did_you_hear_about_us). The key is what appears in the response data, in email variables, in exports and in webhooks. You can rename it in the Advanced tab; keys must be unique within a form.

Layout

Set a field's width to half to place two side by side. Headings, text blocks, images and dividers are layout-only and never appear in the response. A page break starts a new step; see Logic and pages.
